Hadith Gabriel

This hadith narrated from the companions Umar bin Al-Khaththab and Abu Hurairah.This hadith can be found in both Shahihain books , Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim , as Well as Arbain Nawwawi 2nd hadith.

This hadith is a strong proof of Islam , Iman and Ihsan .This hadith tells about an angel (Gabriel) who came to our prophet Muhammad SAW and asked him about Islam , Iman and Ihsan.

(From Umar ibn al-Khathab: One day we were sitting in the company of the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W),

when there appeared before us a man dressed in pure white clothes, his hair extraordinarily black. There

were no signs of travel on him. None of us recognised him. He sat with the Prophet. Resting his knees

Messenger of Allah replied: “Islam is to testify that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish the prayer, pay the alms , observe the fast of Ramadhan, and perform the pilgrimage to the House if you are able to do so”. He said, “You have spoken the truth,” and we were against his and the palms of his hands on his thighs, he said: “O Muhammad, tell me about Islam.” The amazed at him asking and then verifying that he had spoken the truth. He then said, “Inform me about Iman .” He replied, “It is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and in the divine destiny of both good and evil.” He said, “You have spoken the truth.” He then said, “Tell me about Ihsan.” He said, “It is to worship Allah as if you see Him, for though you do not see Him, surely He sees you.” He then said, “Inform me about the Hour.” He replied, “The one who is asked knows no more than the one who is asking.” He said, “Tell me some of its signs.” He said, “That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress, and barefoot, destitute shepherds will compete with one another in the building of magnificent buildings.” Then he (the questioner) went on his way but I stayed with him (the Prophet) for a long while. He said to me, “‘Umar, do you know who this questioner was?” I replied, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “He was Jibril. He came to instruct you in your religion”).

What are the meaning of Islam , Faith (Iman) and Ihsan ?

Islam : a person's surrender and submission to Him through one's observances of the five pillars of Islam . The life of obedience (Islam) takes its birth from seed of faith.

Faith : a firm belief or faith arising out of knowledge and conviction (inner belief )

Ihsan : The term perfection , beautification or excellence of conducts and acts of worship due to one's realisation of God's presence.

Based on the hadith , there are a lot of lessons that we should dive as a Muslim deeply ; 

1)The Islamic religion is the Rabbani religion ,this religion comes from Allah himself . It is not the creation of mankind . Since it comes from the Creator of man , then it is very suitable for to be embraced by all human beings in every time and place.

2)This hadith also explain three pillar of this religion which is the pillars of Faith(Iman) , the pillar of Islam(Islam) and compassion(Ihsan).

3)Islam by someone do not perfect if it is taken only outwardly or inwardly. The perfection of Islam will only proven when Islam is practice as a whole

4)Knowledges in Islam must be learned through classes with teachers and based in true sources .We cannot simply read and make our own consumption.

5) A student must have good manners as a civilized Gabriel when he came to our Prophet Muhammad SAW to ask some questions about the religion.

6)Doomsday is a big event ever that must be believed by all creations .  No one knows when it will happen , not even Prophet Muhammad SAW . It is part of the supernatural that is unknown except by Almighty Allah .

7)This hadith also give us some signs that indicate it (doomsday) is about to happen , among them id\s the incident pf a mother giving birth to her own master and a mother become his servant.

8)At the end of time , there are also events where poor can turn into rich people.
